Acupuncture

Tiny needles, the size of 3-5 human hairs, are inserted in points along the energy pathways in the body to help everything move more smoothly.

Think of it this way: if you were a planet, these pathways would be rivers. The needles help unblock debris or deepen the water at a particular point, which then benefits the entire river and thus the whole planet.

This ancient modality helps relieve mental, emotional, and physical concerns in our modern world.

Curious? Let’s talk.

moxa burning on the end of an acupuncture needle

That’s moxa (pulverized mugwort leaves) smoking on the end of those needles. It acts like “energetic chicken soup”, building energy and substance within the body. Many times, the needles alone are enough – and when extra support is needed, moxa and other techniques are added in to augment the treatment.

What Can It help?

Acupuncture has been used for over 3,000 years to help with everything from head colds to migraines, digestive disorders, back pain, anxiety, depression, major illnesses… and even helping broken bones heal faster.

The majority of my practice focuses on the stress-trauma-recovery spectrum and how it plays out in our bodies, minds, and hearts – which covers just about everything.

Curious if your signs and symptoms are related?

My goal is to always use as few needles as possible, letting the body’s own wisdom lead in the healing process.

Why Choose To Work with Me?

01. Experience

In addition to the “About” page, the important thing to know is that when it comes to stress, trauma, and recovery, I’ve been there, done that, and know the way out.

02. Personality

I’m a nonlinear thinker with a big heart and a good sense of humor. Folks count on me to be forthright, flexible, curious, and, I’m told, wise. Also, in my presence, people know they belong, no matter what.

03. Services

In addition to the usual bag of tricks – needles, moxa, herbs, coaching – I often use somatic touch, word medicine and storytelling to help you live more fully into who you know yourself to be.

04. Performance

I’ve been at this since 2006. Several patients have continued to entrust me with their care for almost 2 decades. If it turns out we’re not a good fit, I’ll be happy to refer you elsewhere. I have many talented friends and colleagues.

What Patients are Saying

Stacy H.

“Janice is a gifted acupuncturist. What I appreciate most is the amount of time she gives. and how she very much personalizes every session. She is very thoughtful in determining the best course of treatment. I enjoy getting a list of things to work on after each session. This has directly sped up the treatment because she taught me how to do my part at home.

She genuinely cares for her clients and works in a very honest way.”

I am elated to say that thanks to the skill, compassion, knowledge, guidance and understanding Janice demonstrated, we together have been able to not only decrease the frequency of my migraines. Up until recently, I would have not considered “wellness” an art form.

This experience has helped me live a fuller life.”

Brian R.

For several years, I suffered with severe foot pain brought on by complications from a bone marrow transplant and was told by my doctors that the pain was something that I would “just have to live with“. With her help, I am now virtually pain-free, starting a running program, and rediscovering a lot of outdoor activities I had been missing out on for years.

I can’t thank Janice enough!”

“I was suffering from fatigue, myalgia, & arthalgia for approximately 2 years that modern medicine could not identify. A fibromyalgia diagnosis was not acceptable… As a nurse practitioner, I was skeptical until I started to feel improvement with all my symptoms.

What a blessing! I highly recommend Dr. Janice.”

“I was badly injured by childhood trauma when I first started seeing her. Soon, I knew what she was doing was working. A secret to the healing was her compassionate influence on me. It took several years and I can now say that I feel very close to fully healed. Best of luck to anyone seeking Janice’s skill.

She’s outstanding!”

“I was a regular patient of Dr. Campbell for several years and then lapsed. During that time, I experienced a series of health events that put me in the hospital for an extended period. It was serious. Although, I recovered with the aid of a good cardiac team, things still weren’t right.

So, I returned to her care to figure it out. I left the first visit feeling light and energized. The pain I was having, along with some other things my traditional doctors couldn’t resolve, had improved dramatically.

Words can’t express how good she is at what she does. I’m fortunate to be back in her caring and professional hands. As a practitioner she is unmatched only by her empathy and compassion for her clients. She heals mind and body.”

“I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my shoulder. Rather than submit to a regimen of steroids, painkillers, and NSAID, I decided to try an alternative therapy. I started receiving acupuncture treatments from Dr. Janice and immediately found relief. After several treatments, I had 100% range of motion in my shoulder. I also felt relief from several nagging issues in my knees and ankles. I feel better than I have in years.

As a postman, I carry her cards with me on my route and recommend people to her all the time for physical, mental, and emotional issues.”

“My neurosurgeon from Shock Trauma, at a post-trauma checkup, mentioned that acupuncture might help me rebalance my life. I had shattered my skull during a very mundane fall, resulting in optic neuropathy and temporal field blindness. Due to this accident, I only have about 25% of my vision left, and no depth fo field. Upon first impression, Janice was warm and empathetic to my healing process and I was taken aback by her honesty and good nature. Janice’s attention to detail and her work with me has been crucial to my recovery post-trauma.

I know that the stressees of this recovery would have been even more difficult had I not found a way to healing. I have recommended Janice to many of my friends and colleagues.”

“I have suffered from hyperhydrosis for as long as I can remember. I knew absolutely nothing about acupuncture and expected big needles with big pain. My first visit immediately changed my perception. I met Janice in her warm and welcoming, quiet space where she took great care.

The needles are very thin and I was surprised that I felt very little pain.

She also treated torticollis in my neck with a procedure called Gua Sha. I experienced immediate relief from pain and instant expanded range of motion after suffering for days, including a trip to the E.R. and prescription pain meds and muscle relaxers. And my hyperhydrosis? I’m thrilled! It changed for the better within the first week or so. Now, it’s on its way to being completely resolved.”

Frequently asked questions

Don’t see yours here? Go to my Contact page and drop me a note.

Do the needles hurt?

I treat people using very tiny needles, about the size of 2 human hairs. Yes, they have a sharp point and may pinch as they go in; however, not always. Many points are completely painless and a lot of people take naps during treatment.

Do I have to have something "wrong" to get treatment?

Many people come to me to help maintain and enhance how they live and move through life. Follow the “Let’s Talk” link above, of sign up for an “Intake & Initial Treatment” and we’ll take it from there.

How Often Do I have to come?

For starters, I often suggest you come weekly for a month or more, depending on what is going on. Then, together, we will decide how far to space treatments out. The membership does require at least a 3 month commitment. I find that is the average amount of time it takes for people to begin to feel more vibrant, integrate their self care homework, and develop habits to tend themselves. This is a partnership and we will decide on these steps together.
